Leaving kids in the car

Filed under: Whimsy — admin @ 1:00 am

Man, we had to sit in the car so long when I was a kid, we would have a fort built all around the car by the time momma came out of the store. We had all secured weapons and was actively engaged with the kids in the car two rows over.

Has the world really became so evil, or does it just seem so because when these horrifying baby-left-in-the-car stories occur, the details are instantly and continuously bombarded at us from every form of media known to man-kind?

If we werent subjected to the darkness which is the media circus of World News Now™, would we be so pessimisstic and cynical and accusatory over something that used to as common as leaving your kids in the car? Today, if you have five kids and some errands to run, you had better block off the entire day or get a babysitter.

If someone told my mother that its not safe to leave your kids in the car, she would have smirked at them and said, “well, just dont get too close to the car and they wont bother you.” She was probably hoping someone would take one or two of us. Leaving us in the car was safer than leaving us at home or taking us into the store.

The sixties and seventies doesnt seem like that long ago. But my how times have changed.
